As the name suggests, theSamurai Japanese Cotton Made Crew is made entirely from Japanese grown cotton. Toru Nogami, the founder of Samurai, originally started this project to prove it was possible to create a pair of denim using 100% Japanese made components. It has since grown into a small farming operation with a goal of preserving an older style of growing and production within the country. Needless to say, this method is more time consuming, with the cotton is planted, weeded, and harvested by hand. The cotton is grown using only rain as natural irrigationandwithout the use of anypesticides.
The end result is a beautiful and substantial 16oz fabric that is packed with slubby characteristics. These garments are woven on 1960s vintage Union Special flat seamer machines, and are finished with cotton thread and a three neddle binder collar. This Kuri Dark color comes from dying using Tamba chestnuts which are indigenous to the Sasayma area (where the cotton is grown).
